(Extract from Annual Report 2016-2017.)
VolTra always hopes to encourage Hong Kong people, through international voluntary
services, to explore the world, learn and appreciate among different cultures, understand the problems and needs of local communities, improve the society through innovative thinking, and ultimately becoming truly global citizens. This is the so-called “Exploration, Empathy, Empowerment of Change” trilogy.
During the past eight years, we have organised overseas individual and group voluntary service projects, Hong Kong workcamps, Mi-VolTra, etc., attracting over 10,000 Hong Kong and overseas volunteers to participate in various voluntary service projects and
exchange activities and to explore the world with curiosity. To further inspire volunteers’ empathy and empowerment of change, we launched the newly designed “Design Thinking Workcamp in Cambodia”, “Funding Scheme for Exchange in Belt and Road Countries – Explore Estonia Through Social Innovation” exchange programme funded by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, and “Jockey Club Glocal Hero Tournament” funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Under these
programmes, stakeholders from government, business, social and academic sectors gathered their power to inspire and nurture change-makers and social innovators in Hong Kong.
To promote global citizenship through these programmes, we have successfully inspired social innovation projects initiated by our volunteers such as Light On Charity, Wheel Power Challenge, My Fair Lady, Honken Global Volunteering For Change, Idle
Market, GreenActs, Plant For Water, etc. We look forward to the continuous success of this social innovation spirit that is brave enough to take up the challenge and make changes. Let us work together to co-create an inclusive, collaborative and sustainable
