Mexico: Protecting Marine Turtle (Jul – Feb)

  
  


Don’t have any ideas of what to do in South America? Come visit Mexico to save our marine turtles under the threat of extinction! Volunteers will be cooperating with a team of biologists to participate in sea turtle conservation. It is a great opportunity to discover the rather charming life of sea turtles.

Project name: Sea Turtles Conservation
Location: RINCON DE GUAYABITOS
Categories: Animal protection / Conservation
Main tasks:
1. Finding adult turtles and collect their eggs.
2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.
3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.
4. Patrolling the beaches at night.
5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region

Accommodation and Food:
Volunteers will be hosted in a hotel in a shared room with all facilities at their disposal namely, private bathroom, hot water, swimming pool, WIFI, and air conditioning.

Location and leisure activities:
Rincon de Guayabitos, also known as Guayabitos, is a beach town located in the astonishing Sierra Madre Occidental. It is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the cities of Tepic, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. Riviera Nayarit is emerging as one of the most attractive and magic destinations of Mexico. The area is integrated by mountainous jungle and facing coastal islands.

Transportation: The nearest airport is Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR); Participants may also transit through Mexico City International Airport (MEX) for inland flight (~1.5h) or  take local bus (~10h) there.

Fee*: Application Fee HKD 3,350 + Camp Fee EUR 310
Participants will be responsible for their air tickets, local transportation and personal expenses.

Remarks:
Participants should research for the VISA requirements of the countries they transit through before purchasing air tickets.
