Two major earthquakes hit Kahramanmara in southeast Turkey, and hundreds of aftershocks affected 10 cities, causing heavy damage to thousands of buildings. Tens of thousands of adults and children affected by the earthquake were relocated to temporary accommodation areas in safe cities, many of which were established by municipalities. More than 150,000 earthquake survivors live in Mezitli, with many staying in various parts of the city, such as relatives' houses, student dormitories, and private estates.
Various art activities will be organized in Mezitli to reduce the trauma of children who experienced the earthquake and to heal their anxiety disorders through art. Workshops such as painting, music, and creative drama will be held, along with activities like social clowning and magic. The program aims to reduce anxiety in children aged 10-17, and gamified training on natural disasters, peaceful living, and sustainable development goals will also be provided. Volunteers who can provide visual, auditory, and non-formal education and activities for children and young people aged 10-14 and 15-17 will be preferred.
In addition to supporting art activities and training for children, volunteers can provide humanitarian aid materials, establish soup kitchens for earthquake victims, and create appropriate accommodation conditions such as landscaping. Although the earthquake did not have a devastating effect on Mezitli, many children and adults in the area experienced fear and psychological effects of the earthquake. Similar socialactivities will be organized for children who did not have their houses destroyed in the earthquake but experienced panic. The program will be held at Happy Life Village, owned by the Mezitli Municipality, and the subjects of study may change based on the needs of the municipality. Every contribution made by volunteers will provide social and community benefits to the local people.
